Providing Engineering Services in Tennessee and Kentucky for over 25 years

About

We at Earth Science Engineering, LLC (ESE) want to thank you for visiting our website. Formed in 1995, ESE is a local Clarksville, TN based consulting engineering firm specializing in geotechnical engineering, environmental due diligence services, and construction materials testing and inspections. We have had the privilege of working at thousands of sites in Tennessee and Kentucky.

We realize you, our customer, may have to meet multiple goals well past the construction of your project. Our philosophy of practical common sense solutions in the here and now helps you keep sight of those longer term goals. We strive to provide unambiguous findings and recommendations in our reports and be responsive to your e-mails and calls. No, we aren’t the largest corporate geotechnical company out there, but with ESE, we strive for you to consider us as your partner when the current project is complete and when your next project begins. If you have any questions or have an upcoming project need, please reach out to us here.

Geotechnical Engineering

Geotechnical services and recommendations are a critical component necessary for the successful design and construction of a new structure. In some instances, geotechnical services are needed for inspections during construction or even well after construction is complete when problems are suspected. ESE is here to assist you and your design team whenever you need those subsurface questions answered.

It is ESE’s philosophy to perform our own drilling services for our projects. We utilize smaller but capable drills that can access tight locations that larger drills can’t reach. Our machines are equipped with hollow stem augers and automatic SPT hammers. We can also provide wire line rock coring when needed.

Construction Testing and Special Inspections

ESE can assist you before and during construction of your project by providing on-site testing and special inspection services along with laboratory testing services. A thorough construction materials testing and inspect program is an invaluable tool in ensuring the building and other structures meet the project design and applicable codes; and is safe for use.

These services also can be very valuable in identifying a potential issue early on while there is more time to correct the issue or make other adjustments as deemed necessary by the design team and contractor. This holds especially true when the issue involves the site soils or foundation concrete. When deficiencies are noted, ESE doesn’t wait around until the report gets typed and reviewed. With ESE, you get a phone call or e-mail as soon as possible.

Drilling Services

ESE believes it is important to provide in house drilling capabilities in tandem with our geotechnical engineering business. But we like to drill so much that we’ll do it for others and even our competition so they can also meet their customers’ needs. These may include soil drilling and SPT or Shelby tube sampling in addition to rock coring with wire line coring systems. ESE’s drills provide a strong punch but with a small footprint and often can access those boring locations the big rigs can’t reach. ESE also offers direct push sampling for environmental drilling projects with OSHA 40 hour trained personnel.

Environmental Assessments and Consulting

Established environmental regulations, such as the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA), sets forth the responsibilities of commercial property owners for cleanup and environmental protection. In layman’s terms, who ever is holding the bag is responsible for cleanup when it’s discovered, not the party who actually caused the contamination previously. The courts and lawyers can sort out who is ultimately responsible later, the regulatory agencies want your site cleaned up now. As such, these laws make due diligence crucial for investors to avoid inheriting costly cleanup responsibilities.

When you need to do your due diligence, we at ESE are here to help you through that process with an ASTM compliant Phase I Environmental Site Assessment (ESA). And when the ESA identifies a recognized environmental condition (REC), we are here to help you confirm the presence of the suspected contamination and, if desired, evaluate the horizontal and vertical extent of the contamination. Our in-house drill has direct push capabilities making the whole process more seamless for your needs and schedule.
